What’s been going on…
Congratulations to Ollie Myatt & Kate Buckley who beat Scott Baker and Yani Podemsky in a closely fought match at the Camilla Cope American Tournament last bank holiday Monday.

Last Saturday saw another fab social event at Leverstock Green – Ascot Race Evening. Thank you to all those who helped make the event such fun, in particular Gavin Beale who, at the last minute, was able to help with our technical issues! We all had a fun time and a good chance to meet up with other members.

What’s been going on (cont)…
Friday Night is Junior Night had Pizza Night Special to mark the end of half term – another great success.

Adult Beginner Group is up and running on Tuesday evenings filling the clay courts with new adult learners. At the same time 5&6 are full with last terms learners and this terms intermediates. It is great to see so many new faces at the club, please make them all feel welcome, new players this year are potential new members next year!

Club Closed Tournament plate draws are now up in the club and have been posted on Facebook. And a reminder to make sure you’re checking the deadlines as the finals are fast approaching, and also to add that there’s a slight change this year and the semi-finals need to be played by the Sunday before finals day, which is the 16th of July, so make sure you get your matches in before then.
If you haven’t paid for your entry please do so as soon as possible!

Watford and District Matches are now well under way each weeknight evening. Do come and support your teams, have some beer or wine and watch some excellent tennis. On Mondays we occasionally have two home matches on at the same time. On these occasions there will be fewer courts available for other members to book – please check before you come to the club hoping to play.

Herts League and Hot Racket matches are also in full swing. These are played on Saturday and Sunday afternoon – check the booking system to see who is playing – spectators are always welcome.

Sunday morning and Wednesday evening Social Tennis are each attracting plenty of players. If you are available and fancy a hit just turn up to play. Sunday runs 10am-12noon, Wednesday from 6pm.

Clay Courts

We have been seeing some issues with the clay courts recently. Please can all members take note of what needs to be done if you’re using them.

The clay courts should be dragged at the end of play. Please do not play on these courts if they are too wet. If the courts are very dry please use the irrigation system before commencing play (a member of the Exec or coaching team will be able to show you how it works). If you are unsure whether the courts are playable, please ask. There is a line brush available in the clubhouse, please use when necessary and return to the clubhouse. If the line tapes come up or the courts get uneven or rutted even after dragging, please report this to the Groundsman / Head of Facilities as soon as possible.

The Facilities team are fixing some of the lines, so if you see the nets are down, that means that court is temporarily out of action.
What’s coming up…

‘Inner Game Mindset’ Course being held at the club for our members on Sunday 25th June. 10am-1pm. This is an amazing 3 hour course run by top coach Andy Knibbs for players who want to improve their mindset to get the best out of their tennis and is ideal for match play doubles.

This isn’t just for top players but for everyone and anyone whose game changes for the worse in a pressure situation, or in a match.

The cost is £50 and could well be the best money you’ve invested in the game and will totally complement any other coaching you’ve receive. This isn’t about changing how you physically play the game, but your mental training and resilience.

Please speak to Graham Fish for more details and to sign up.

The forms for the Handicap Tournament will be out next week – watch this space for more information.

Oh yes, it’s back!! Our next Tipsy Tennis is on Friday 30th June. Welcome to all and it would be great to see our new members attend. If mixing tennis with a drink sounds like your thing but you are not sure what’s involved then please speak to Rob Munns who will do everything to make you feel welcome!

Sign up on the Social board or email [email protected] if you want to come.

The tennis is very much secondary to having fun, infact the better players tend to have the bigger forfeits! Fancy dress optional and encouraged – Loud and Proud is the theme!! Looking forward to seeing as many faces as possible.
